It was in a packed Saint-Loup church that the dean of Marche spoke in his most beautiful Walloon, on the occasion of the centenary of the “Wallos”. A large part of the ceremony was dedicated to the hundredth anniversary of the Walloon Festival. Father Van Vynckt particularly paid tribute to its founders, including the essential François Bovesse. He also honored Joseph Calozet, Ernest Montellier and Lucien Léonard, all three at the origin of the Walloon mass, created in 1952. All this, without forgetting all the volunteers who work to organize the Walloon Festival, without whom the event might not take place. “God doesn’t count like us. He pays generously. Because he thinks much more regarding people than regarding money,” he declared to underline the importance of the work provided, before brandishing a “Wallo”, the beer brewed for the centenary of the festivities.

As usual, the one who presided over the mass in Walloon for the ninth time also joked lightly on some current issues. In addition, he referred to the slow pace of work to extend the Walloon Parliament and its new furniture, including chairs which each cost around 3,000 euros, as reported in the press recently. “Even if you are in a hurry, when you are seated, you will have to refrain from letting out a fart that is too powerful, for fear of making a hole in the upholstery of the chairs,” he said with a smile on his lips. “At the price they cost, they should be avoided, especially since it seems that there is no more money to replace them!”
