The US command said in a statement published on its account on the “X” platform: “During the past 24 hours, US Central Command forces succeeded in destroying two missile systems in an area under Houthi control in Yemen.”
The statement added, “These systems were found to pose an imminent threat to US forces, coalition forces, and commercial vessels in the region. These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for US ships, coalition forces, and commercial vessels.”
Earlier on Tuesday morning, CENTCOM confirmed that the Saudi-flagged oil tanker Amjad was hit “following a Houthi attack” in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen.
“On the morning of September 2, the Iranian-backed Houthis attacked two crude oil tankers, the Panama-flagged, Greek-operated MV Blue Lagoon 1 and the Saudi-flagged, owned and operated MV Amjad, with two ballistic missiles and an unmanned aerial vehicle, damaging both vessels,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted on its X account.
The Yemeni Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) announced yesterday evening, Monday, that it had “carried out a qualitative military operation targeting the ship “Blue Lagoon 1” in the Red Sea.”
Since last November, Ansar Allah has been launching naval attacks that it says target ships linked to Israel and heading to its ports, in support of the Palestinian factions in confronting the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip.
