One year following the completion of the national census 2022the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) released this Thursday new provisional results, in this case on “indicators of housing conditions of private homes.”

The data points to the population’s access to basic services in the homes they live in.

Numerous data remain pending and delayed from the census, including those broken down by town or city.

Regarding housing services, the figures now disclosed correspond to the national average, that of each province and those of their departments or districts.

In this context, the first impression is that the province of Córdoba offers better numbers than the national average in terms of access to network drinking water and the existence of bathrooms with installed toilets, but lower rates in terms of connections to sewer networks and gas natural. At the same time, the data show almost equal numbers between Córdoba and the country’s average in Internet connectivity, when households connected to this service and those that have at least one computer at home are measured.

When observed by departments, the delay in access to the most impoverished regions of the north and northwest of Cordoba continues to be verified. At the other end, the best numbers appear in the Capital and in the most developed central-south areas.

Some of the items surveyed

Houses with bathrooms or latrine inside the house. This item includes 94.5% in the country and 97.5% of households in Córdoba. If it is measured by department within the province, those with the least access are Minas, Pocho and Rio Seco (below 90%), the Capital has 98%, very close to Marcos Juárez and Tercero Arriba that mark the top with a 98.6%.

Dwellings with bathrooms with flush toilets. In the country, 90.9% of inhabited houses have it. In Cordoba, 96.1%.

With connection to sewer networks. The national average is 62.6%. For Córdoba it is much lower: 45.7% of households. Although investments in sewage plants have been added in recent years, the 2022 census still shows a significant lag in real household connections. By department, almost all those in the north and northwest arc are below 4% coverage. The Capital shows 56.9% and the highest numbers were measured in General San Martin (Villa María) with 81.5% of households, followed by Río Cuarto (71.9%), Juárez Celman (54.2% ) and Roque Sáenz Peña (52.7%).

With connection to drinking water network. In the country, 85.4% of inhabited homes have this service, while in Córdoba it rises to 93.9%.

Homes with mains gas or electricity for cooking. 58.4% is the national average and in Córdoba it is located somewhat below, with 54.8%.

Own home, inhabited by its owners. 65.5% of those surveyed in the country in 2022 met this condition (the rest were rented, borrowed or occupied). In Córdoba, it was 58.7% of the cases. In this area, the equation is the opposite of services: there is a higher level of owners and fewer tenants where there is less socioeconomic development. For example, in this province the departments with the most homes occupied by their owners are the northern Minas, Pocho, Sobremonte and Río Seco, above 73%. In the Capital, it stands at 52%, the lowest figure in the province, followed by General San Martin (56.3%).

Households with Internet connection. 78% have this service throughout the country. In Córdoba it is slightly higher: 78.7%. Seen from within the province, once more Pocho, Minas, Río Seco and Sobremonte look more neglected (with between 23% and 31% of their homes), while the Capital reaches 83.7% of their homes with internet and the peak is marked by San Martin (84.6%), together with San Justo, Roque Sáenz Peña, Tercero Arriba, Marcos Juarez and Unión, which are above 80%.

Homes with cell phones with Internet. The national average is 89.7%, the same figure as that registered for Córdoba.

Homes with at least one computer, tablet or similar. 59.3 of the homes said they had this equipment in the country average. In Córdoba it was 59.5%, also with marked nuances by area: from 24% in Pocho or Sobremonte to 65.6% in the Capital.
