On Saturday, March 9, field work on the 2024 Population and Housing Census will begin, the statistical operation that will allow us to know how many of us there are and how and where we live. More than 32,000 people will participate in this process, including around 24,000 census takers.
“The start date of the 2024 Population and Housing Census will be Saturday, March 9, and on that day the deployment of the 24,500 census takers will begin throughout the entire territory,” said the national director of the INE, Ricardo Vicuña.
In addition, the authority of the National Institute of Statistics indicated that “in addition to censusing all the inhabitants of private residences, two special operations will be carried out. The first consists of censusing all the people who live or reside in collective housing, be it hospitals, prisons, senior residences, minors’ residences, institutions where the Armed Forces reside, etc. And there is also a second special operation, which is people who live homeless. “These two special operations will also be carried out during this period between March and June.”
The largest statistical operation in the country
For his part, the Minister of Economy, Nicolás Grau, in his capacity as president of the National Census Commission, emphasized the role of the State in supporting the census operation. “Our Census is the largest statistical operation in the country. It is important for a very broad set of public policies and for our entire statistical architecture; For example, the Census gives us very relevant information for the purposes of constructing the Casen sampling frame.”
In this sense, the Chilean Air Force will carry out a flight to census those who reside in the Chilean bases in Antarctica; while the Army will provide logistical support in a mission to the commune of Timaukel.
How to prepare for the interview with the census taker
For her part, Macarena Alvarado, Head of the Census Project, stated that the invitation is to open the door, participate and respond for all the usual residents who reside in the home that he or the census taker is visiting.
“Any person who habitually resides in the home being visited can respond to the Census; they must be 18 years old or older, know the information regarding the rest of the people who reside in the home, and be a habitual resident, that is, they must have lived in the home.” most of the last 12 months in this one or who intend to continue living there for at least 6 months. And the last point, which is a very important one, is to do your homework before the census takers visit us. The invitation is to review the census questionnaire and learn the information of the habitual residents of their homes,” explained the Head of the census operation.
All the information on the statistical operation is available on the website www.censo2024.cl or by calling Censo Phone 1525.
