Cem Ozdemir has found love once again.
It wasn’t until November of the previous year that Germany’s Agriculture Minister, Cem Özdemir, announced his separation from his wife, ending a 20-year marriage. Now, the 58-year-old politician has fallen in love again, this time with a Canadian lawyer who is two decades younger than him. She is described as “very affable.”

Since 2001, Özdemir has found love in the form of Pia Maria Castro, an Argentine journalist. The couple exchanged vows in 2003 and had two children. But in November 2023, they announced the failure of their marriage after an impressive 20-year journey. They wanted to maintain the appearance of friendship and wanted to avoid further public statements to protect their privacy and mainly to protect their children.
The announcement of the couple’s separation was not a sudden event. In fact, they had already gone their separate ways in secret before the separation became public knowledge. Therefore, it was no surprise when Özdemir began a relationship with his new partner, Flavia Zaka, in late 2023. Their romantic relationship officially began in early 2024.
A Sting concert in Stuttgart
The “Stuttgarter Zeitung” reported the existence of Özdemir’s new flame and provided further details about her identity. According to the newspaper, Zaka is a 38-year-old Canadian lawyer, who is 20 years younger than Özdemir. Her background includes degrees in law and politics, as well as her past involvement in an initiative to combat human trafficking in Ontario.
A recent event that saw Özdemir and Zaka attend a concert by musician Sting, as part of the “Jazz Open” festival in Stuttgart from July 18 to 29, further confirmed their relationship. During the concert, Özdemir introduced Zaka to several acquaintances, including Canadian dancer Eric Gauthier. Gauthier commented: “She is very charming and it is clear how happy Özdemir and her are together.”
A confidential source close to the couple spoke to the newspaper, saying: “They have a very harmonious relationship with Özdemir’s ex-husband.”
Özdemir himself has not yet acknowledged his new relationship. However, his constituency office in Stuttgart has apparently confirmed this information to the newspaper, definitively confirming that he is no longer single.
