Celtics Confirm Joe Mazzulla as Head Coach for Next Season: Expectations High for the Future

It’s not the news of the century but rather confirmation of a trend : Joe Mazzulla will continue his adventure at the head of the Celtics next season. Lost to the Heat or not, Joe still has the confidence of his front office, especially Brad Stevens.

The rumor had been circulating since the end of the Eastern Conference Finals, we are now set.

The Celtics clearly did not plan to part ways with their coach on a whim. Mazzulla took over Ime Udoka’s team in the 2022 offseason and led the C’s to a big regular season (57-25). If the adventure in the Playoffs did not go as far as the previous season and showed large phases of irregularity on the Green side, Brad Stevens is convinced of the merits of this decision.

Present at the end-of-season press conference, the president of Boston basketball operations repeated his support for his coach repeatedly.

“He’s a great leader. He’s not going to do anything but improve on what he’s learned this year, because he’s constantly trying to learn” – Brad Stevens on Joe Mazzulla

Arrived at the start of the season in Boston, Joe Mazzulla took over a roster and coaching staff that he mightn’t build. Despite everything, the Mazzullance managed to keep the good dynamic around the Clubs and clearly showed its strength as well as that of its workforce by returning to 3-3 in the series once morest the Heat. If these Conference Finals remain a failure, JM assumes its responsibilities internally. The kind of attitude that pleases the boss, still a fan of his coach.

“He takes responsibility. […] When you can show all those leadership abilities when there are expectations and when you’re under the microscope like he was, it’s really not easy to do” – Stevens on Mazzulla

Jayson Tatum and company will therefore be able to count on Joe Mazzulla once more next season. At the same time for a rookie coach, second in conference and only stopped in Game 7 of the Eastern Finals, it’s not such a horrible performance, is it? Next year the expectations will obviously be higher for Joe, but his workforce has everything to answer it. Good news for the coach, he should be able to take advantage of the summer to rebuild his staff. While some heads will join Udoka in Houston, the Celtics coach should indeed accommodate at least one assistant with a bottle in the NBA according to ESPN.

At least one more year for Joe Mazzulla with the Leprechauns, he who still has three years of contract for 14 million dollars. So that gives him a few months to shape his squad in his own way for the first time, an entire season to lead him to the 18th ring in the franchise, and above all a bunch of dribbling sessions with Jaylen Brown.
