The Celtic circle of Crac’h (Morbihan) “Yaouankiz er Ster” was present on Tuesday of the island of Arz on May 16, 2023 during Gulf Week. The opportunity to ask its president Jocelyne Cougoulic a few questions between two performances.

Tell us regarding your association?

The Yaouankiz er Ster Celtic circle, which means the youth of the river, was created in 1968. We are still active in 2023.

Do you often come to Ile d’Arz Tuesday?

Since the beginning of Gulf Week, we have come to perform on Tuesdays on the Ile d’Arz. The site is magnificent with the boats. It’s a good kid. It dances and it sings.

How many members does the Celtic Circle have?

The Covid has slightly reduced the workforce in costumes. We are still a good dozen to wear the costume. On the other hand, at the level of the leisure group, we are 70. We do rehearsals every Friday evening from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with Kenleur approved instructors.

What headdress are you wearing?

This is the headdress of the Pays d’Auray. Before, the headdress took more of the face. From 1930, the headdress was lightened. The costume has been shortened. For men, it’s the party costume. The more velvet one has on the collar, the richer one is. The longer the hat guides, the richer one is. For women, the more velvet there is on the sleeves, the richer one is.

What are the goals of your Celtic band?

Breton dance is not just regarding getting on a podium. It’s carrying on the tradition. People are invited to dance and wear the costume. We wore the costume 33 times in July-August. We dream of doing the parade of the Festival intercetlique de Lorient (FIL) but there is no way. We would be ready to join another group.

What are the ambitions of the Celtic Circle?

We are not categorized in the Kenleur confederation. We are self-taught. We choose our parties. It would take a fairly large group, at least three quadrettes (12 people). We might thus go to Tradi’deiz to pass the 4th category.
