After two draws on Thursday, Celta de Vigo beat Alavés 2-1 on Friday in the first matchday, thus signing the first victory for a team in the 2024-2025 Spanish League.
It was also a comeback at their Balaídos stadium, after Alavés took the lead in the 17th minute with a goal from Kike. In the second half, the Galician team turned the match around with goals from the Swede Williot Swedberg (66) and Iago Aspas (84).
The other game on Friday ended in a draw. Sevilla took the lead twice at Las Palmas, which also managed to equalise twice.
Sevilla’s goals came from an own goal by Alex Suarez (25) and a goal by Juanlu Sanchez (61). For the Canaries, Tanguy Nianzou Kouassi (42) also scored an own goal and Sandro Ramirez (71) scored the final 2-2.
The first round of Spanish football continues on Saturday with two more matches, including the visit of Hansi Flick’s new Barça to Valencia.
Defending champions Real Madrid play at Mallorca on Sunday.
The white team made its official debut on Wednesday by winning the European Super Cup with a 2-0 victory over Italian side Atalanta, in a match where its new star, Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, scored.
