CREATOR Pictures and SeruJuga Film Studio are producing the latest horror film titled Penunggu Rumah: Buto Ijo, produced by Gandhi Fernando and Adnan Djani. This film offers a new horror experience by presenting the famous figure from the Timun Mas fairy tale, Buto Ijo. This time, Buto Ijo is present in a dark modern horror version set in 2024.
Penunggu Rumah: Buto Ijo tells the story of Srini (Celine Evangelista), a single mother with one child who begins to be haunted by a giant figure approaching her child’s sixth birthday. In an effort to seek help, Srini contacts Ali (Gandhi Fernando), her ex-boyfriend who is a creator of horror content that tests her courage.
Ali and Lana (Valerie Thomas), his sister, who are in desperate need of money, agree to help Srini. The situation turns dark when the figure of Buto Ijo begins to appear before Ali. Slowly terror after terror appears and begins to reveal the dark secrets in the house.
The film is directed by Achmad Romie, who was previously a co-director on the Renee Pictures production titled Mantan. In addition, Romie also directed the omnibus film Dongeng Mistis (Pocong segment). Currently, Romie has just finished a family musical film titled Iyus Jenius.
Penunggu Rumah: Buto Ijo also features Celine Evangelista as Srini, Meryem Hasanah as Tisya, Gandhi Fernando as Ali, Valerie Thomas as Lana, Adnan Djani as Indra, and Arie Dwi Andhika as Riza. The film was written by Gandhi Fernando and co-produced by Adnan Djani.
“I have always dreamed of adapting folk tales into a feature film. Finally, it came true through a free adaptation of Buto Ijo,” said producer Gandhi Fernando in a press release received by Media Indonesia, Friday, (19/7).

The filming process has been completed since July 16, 2024 and is planned to be released in theaters in 2025. This film offers something different from the usual ghost terror that is present in other Indonesian films. Buto Ijo, which was originally present in the Indonesian fairy tale legend, is creatively interpreted by Creator Pictures & SeruJuga Film Studio by providing a touch of gripping two-dimensional elements and a dark combination of social media content trends that are rampant in society today.
A disaster that begins with the sincere help of the main character who wants to help through social media content, but instead becomes the beginning of a disaster full of adrenaline and horror with new visuals and colors.
