But the hopes of a return of the Quebec singer on stage are not running out of steam.
“The people who love him, the fans etc. are in large quantities. I think she might be as successful if she returns,” noted Barbara Vetere, spouse of Yves Frulla, keyboardist for Celine Dion.
In addition to having many fans, the singer has had a huge impact in this American city. According to Ms. Vetere, Celine Dion brought a “second wind” to Las Vegas, by bringing back the concept of residencies.
“There have been residences before. The impact of Sinatra in the 50s, that of Elvis in the 70s but following that, it fell a bit to sleep. Céline and René came to dust off all that and bring the residency concepts back to Las Vegas. […] It changed the phase of Las Vegas in the 2000s,” she mentioned in an interview.
Moreover, this is one of the aspects covered in the documentary Céline le silence, which will be available on December 8, 2023 on Crave and on Noovo from 9 p.m.
“It was just the place to be. Celine attracted an international crowd that Las Vegas had not seen since the days of Elvis,” said retired Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke in the documentary Celine the Silence. “There is no doubt that Céline made Las Vegas cool once more.”
Indeed, Celine Dion’s concerts also helped attract Quebec tourists to the city on the other side of the border.
“Travel agencies have organized themselves here to offer packages, namely the plane and the hotel. So, there were also tours that were offered with French-speaking guides,” explained Ms. Vetere.
