“THE SHOW THAT NEVER WAS”
After canceling the 2024 summer men’s wear series originally planned to be released at the Paris art space LA GAÎTÉ LYRIQUE in July 2023, HEDI SLIMANE shot the series’ blockbusters in Paris and Monaco respectively in the same month. It was filmed at the Paris art space LA GAÎTÉ LYRIQUE and the Monte-Carlo Opera House, and was performed by classical ballet dancer LAURIDS SEIDEL.
Continuing the original soundtrack of CELINE’s 2024 summer women’s collection LA COLLECTION DE LA BIBLIOTHÈQUE NATIONALE, HEDI SLIMANE continues to explore LCD SOUNDSYSTEM’s first album of the same name released in 2005, which represents independent electronic music and is the most influential in the club scene. HEDI SLIMANE began documenting the emerging art scene in New York in the early 2000s. Curated a group exhibition titled “SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH” at Berlin’s ARNDT & PARTNER gallery. This art exhibition brings together the works of outstanding central New York artists DAN COLEN, NATE LOWMAN, RYAN MCGINLEY and BANKS VIOLETTE.
Later in the same year, HEDI SLIMANE held an exhibition titled “YOUNG AMERICAN” at the Amsterdam Museum of Photography, paying tribute to the artists of his generation by presenting a series of black and white portraits.
HEDI SLIMANE looks back on his close ties with the New York art scene, starting from the legacy of DASH SNOW and selecting artworks from his creative archives for inclusion in the DELUSIONAL DAYDREAM series.
LCD SOUNDSYSTEM’s style beats are reinterpreted by the young and energetic New York music scene, and this show is dedicated to them.
HEDI SLIMANE began shooting for the resurgent New York generation after the epidemic lockdown was lifted, showcasing different alternative musicians, artists and club socialites through a series of portraits.
From the “DIMES SQUARE” area to the borders of Brooklyn, a strong, utopian and free artistic youth began to emerge, further confirming the return of the New York art world.
