Celebrations for the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre begin in Miami

This Saturday, the Cuban community in Miami began paying tribute to the Virgin of Charity of Cobre, whose main celebration will take place on September 8.

The Ermita de la Caridad, an emblematic place for Cuban exiles, has called on the faithful under the motto “United with the people of Cuba,” in recognition of the difficulties the island is facing.

Procession in Miami in honor of the Virgin

Saturday was marked by a special tour of the Virgin of the Hermitage of Charity through various points in Miami-Dade County.

This procession, which takes place every year, included a replica of the original image of the Virgin, which was transported in an urn inside a white van decorated with roses. During the journey, the Virgin was accompanied by the flags of Cuba and the United States, symbolizing the union between Cuban exiles and their country of origin.

The tour included ten stops in different towns in the county, where participants sang songs in honor of the Virgin. These stops were an opportunity to remember the deep connection that Cubans have with the Virgin of Charity, who has been present at key historical moments and has strengthened faith and national pride over several decades.

Week of events at the Hermitage of Charity

The National Shrine of Our Lady of Charity has organized a series of events for the coming week in honor of the Patroness of Cuba. These events seek to reinforce the spirit of faith and solidarity among the Cuban community in Miami, while continuing to call for the freedom and well-being of the Cuban people.

This year, the celebrations in Miami have a special meaning, given the context of the difficult conditions in Cuba. The Ermita de la Caridad is not only a place of devotion, but also a meeting point for those who wish to keep their roots alive and express their support for their compatriots on the island.

A tribute full of faith and hope

In July of this year, dozens of devotees gathered in an act of faith in Miami to participate in a procession in honor of the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre. During this occasion, they asked for the freedom of Cuba and honored the third anniversary of the protests of July 11, 2021, an event that left a deep mark on the Cuban community.

The tributes to Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre in Miami reflect the strength of the faith of Cuban exiles and their unbreakable bond with their homeland. Through these acts of devotion, Cubans in Miami continue to keep alive the hope of a better future for their country.
