As integrative physicians with a focus on family health, 36 tenth-semester students of the Medicine Program already proudly wear the white coats that bear the seal of the Universidad del Magdalena.
This distinctive attire of their profession was awarded to them in the traditional ceremony of imposition of white coats organized by the Alma Mater to guarantee the start of their professional practices required for their qualification as doctors.
The young people go to health institutions in Magdalena, Atlántico, Bolívar, Cesar, Sucre, Santander, Norte de Santander, Quindío and Bogotá DC, with which UNIMAGDALENA has teaching-service agreements and where they will put into practice what they have learned in their formative trajectory. .
“We hope they continue to strengthen their training process and demonstrate the DNA projected from the University, as well as the academic quality with which they will offer solutions, humanism and high knowledge,” said María Meñaca Guerrero, director of the Medicine Program.
High quality doctors
Convinced of the education provided by this high-quality accredited program, the 36 medical interns show good expectations for working in professional settings without the supervision of a teacher.
Given this, the young Catherin Sánchez Carreño stated: “They recognize us as good students coming from a high-quality accredited university. It is a great responsibility for everyone. Throughout our training we have made an effort to leave our Alma Mater high”.
In addition to being authorized to treat and care for lives, by receiving the white coat, future doctors acquire the social commitment to solve health problems of human beings and their family environment with respect, responsibility and dignity.
“We are going to take care of the lives of many people and it is a treasure that we must appreciate very well, because people are going to give us their trust and in their most vulnerable moments we will be there accompanying them,” said student Jhonny Franco González.
For his part, the student Carlos Quitián Cárdenas, who received a free tuition scholarship for the diploma of his choice in recognition of his academic performance, highlighted the incentives that UNIMAGDALENA grants to promote the merit and dedication of university students.
“The University has given us all the tools to be comprehensive doctors. I am grateful because he knows how to recognize the effort of his students, this motivates them to continue growing”, assured the future professional.
Fruits of Magdalena Talent
Two student beneficiaries of the Magdalena Talent program also received gowns, who are part of the 2,083 low-income young people from various municipalities in the department who have accessed higher education with economic, psychosocial, and academic support.
With the arrival of the last stage of their academic life, the young women are closer to achieving their dreams: becoming one of the first professionals in their families and overcoming the existing poverty trap in a large part of the department of Magdalena.
