Friday, November 24, a friendly and cultural evening was held at the Orlando space in Saint-Jean-Lespinasse, honoring William Merwin, writer and poet, and Peter Orlando, painter and ceramist, both Americans who became Lotois presenting a journey parallel. The principle of the evening was the partnership between two associations “In the footsteps of William Merwin” and the Orlando association, for the organization of a vigil of readings of texts by W. Merwin accompanied by an exhibition of works by Father Orlando.

After the welcome speech by Hélène Pradelle, president of the Orlando association, Hélène Sirieys, DPLG landscaper, presented the typicality of the place, a barn transformed into this beautiful Orlando cultural space. Laurence Muteaux, assistant to the exhibition curator of the Orlando association, presented the artistic journey of Peter Orlando and his work illustrated by a unique exhibition of around ten paintings. Jacques Delmas, president of the “In the footsteps of William Merwin” association, insisted on the triple interest of the meeting: partnership between two associations, enhancement of local architectural heritage and promotion of cultural and artistic works. Then it was the turn of the evening’s hosts, Éric Louviot and Romilly Waite, to read alternately in French or in English or in two voices around thirty poems by William Merwin, Christian Bobin and Bernard de Ventadour including extracts from the Appeal of Causse, la Renarde, les Fleurs de Mai de Ventadour… After the performance, the evening continued with the tasting of soup and delicious bourriols (small buckwheat or buckwheat crepe) cooked and served by Hélène Sirieys.
