The pressure to perform exists before each show, but it is even more palpable when the time comes to pay tribute to the greatest singer in the history of the Francophonie, Celine Dion.

The artists were all smiles this followingnoon at the Agora du Port de Québec, for the rehearsal for the show For you Celine, which will take place tomorrow. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, big names such as Mario Pelchat and French singer Ycare admitted to feeling a certain pressure on the eve of this tribute, which aims mainly to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the album. Two, by Celine Dion; best-selling French-language album in history.

« Elle [Céline] is still the greatest singer of the Francophonie”, says Mario Pelchat from the outset. “Nobody wants to imitate him, because nobody would be able to do it”, drops, with a sneer, the one who began his career in the same years as the main interested party, adding that the goal is to “do justice to iconic songs. »

For Ycare, a French singer who has more than 655,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, just knowing that Celine Dion herself might be watching this tribute on TV is more than enough pressure.

“Just tell me that she might be watching, then I’m screwed,” jokes Ycare, while we can feel the kernel of truth in what he says. “It represents the soundtrack of several generations,” he praises.

The very definition of a star

“She is so far away, due to all she has accomplished, but she shines so brightly that she seems accessible to us; she’s a real star,” notes Ycare, visibly honored to be part of tomorrow’s show.

Called to react to this assertion by Ycare, Mario Pelchat seconded him without hesitation.

The guest artists were not hard to convince

Even if the presence on stage for this show is accompanied by a certain pressure, Isabelle Viviers, artistic director of the festivities surrounding the SuperFrancoFête, affirms that each guest artist immediately jumped at the opportunity.

“Each artist had a story to tell related to this album,” she says, referring to the album.
