The emergence of Ecuadorian cinema, which celebrates its centenary this month; and the outstanding performance of Evelina Macías as an actress, intertwined significantly. During the 1920s, a time of change and experimentation, Augusto San Miguel, a young visionary, founded Ecuador Film Co. in 1924.
Equipped with technology imported from Europe, San Miguel dedicated himself to creating the country’s first fiction films and documentaries, thus laying the foundations of the film industry in Ecuador.
This dynamic and pioneering environment provided the ideal platform for emerging talents like Evelina to flourish and make an unforgettable mark on the national cinematic culture.
Amidst this cinematic flourishing, Evelina continued her career, participating in other significant films such as “Soledad” (1925) and “Guayaquil de mis amores” (1930). The latter was notable for being the first Ecuadorian production with live voice dubbing.
