London: The first world cup in cricket was not in the men’s category, women played in the world tournament for the first time. The first Women’s ODI World Cup was held in England from June 20, 1973. The tournament that rewrote the history of cricket turned 50 on Tuesday.

The final of the tournament was on July 28, where the International Cricket XI team was fielded along with England, Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Young England. England won by beating Australia by 92 runs in the final.

England players had more wickets and runs. Enid Bakewell with 264 runs and Rosalind Heggs with 12 wickets led the way.

So far 12 World Cups have been held in Women’s ODIs. Australia won eight times and England four times. The first World Cup in men’s cricket (1975) was held two years following the Women’s World Cup.
