It has now become an integral part of the celebrations surrounding German Unity Day: On October 3rd, 2024, the “3. October – Germany sings and sounds” for the fifth time to experience and celebrate this special day together through singing and making music. At 7 p.m., ten well-known unifying songs from various genres, including Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, Turkish and Hebrew, will be sung simultaneously throughout the country to commemorate the Peaceful Revolution. In 2024, the day of action is under the patronage of the President of the Federal Council and Prime Minister of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig.

On this Antje Valentin, Secretary General of the German Music Council: “The German Music Council cordially invites everyone to take part in open singing, making music and celebrating the Day of German Unity this year. When music initiates and accompanies moments of community, as it does on this day of action, it brings different generations, cultures and world views into contact with each other and gives joy and hope: a great gift for our vulnerable society. With music as a common language, we strengthen our solidarity, reflect on the value of peace and the power of diversity and inclusion!”

For everyone who would like to take part: The initiative has a Songbook with ten songs of hope and peace and other material such as playbacks made available for download. You can also take part spontaneously in your own town or from home. The main event for German Unity Day will take place in Schwerin in 2024 and can be held via a Live-Stream be tracked. As a cooperation partner, the German Music Council supports the “3. October – Germany sings and sounds”.
