Čeferin: moving to Asia will set Russian football back 100 years – 05/14/2022

As previously reported by the media, in light of the latest sanctions by UEFA, the RFU is considering joining the Asian confederation, which, unlike the European one, does not have a negative attitude towards Russia.

“This idea comes from some politician, not from the Russian Football Union. I believe that if this happens, Russian football will be thrown back 100 years ago, ”COPE quotes Čeferin with reference to an interview with the functionary to the Slovenian STA agency.

Earlier, the UEFA executive committee decided not to allow Russian clubs to compete in European competitions in the 2022/23 season, and the Russian team to play in the Nations League. The Russian youth team has been suspended from participation in the European Championship. The women’s national team will not play in the finals of Euro 2022 and qualifying for the 2023 World Cup. Russia’s bid to host the European Championships in 2028 or 2032 has been rejected.
