Cédric Swennen Resigns as General Director of SPI: What’s Next for the Territorial Development Agency?

His resignation presented this Thursday before the board of directors surprised more than one. After 15 years at SPI, the last five as general director, Cédric Swennen (48 years old) decided to do something else.

“I have actually felt a little tired lately. I feel like I launched the new strategic plan well, but having worked with so many entrepreneurs during my career also made me want to be one myself. After passing the torch to my successor, I will launch myself into the field that I love the most, namely the circular economy and low-carbon research. »

The SPI is the territorial development agency for the province of Liège. It brings together its 84 municipalities alongside the Province to create as many sustainable jobs as possible by making land available to entrepreneurs. To do this, 110 people take care of dozens of projects full time.

Even if he was not recognized as having the same charisma as his predecessor François Lejeune, he was able to launch the digital, data and wasteland projects during his mandate. We will therefore have to quickly find a replacement because there is no shortage of challenges still to be overcome. And in particular those of all the industrial wastelands left vacant by the departure of ArcelorMittal.

A call for applications should be quickly launched with an entry into office normally scheduled for March 1.
