Gaza/Tel Aviv: Controversy over hostage release on second day of ceasefire in Gaza. The move was to release 14 hostages and 42 Palestinians yesterday. However, it was mired in controversy. Israel’s position is that only 13 names are on Hamas’ release list from the list it provided. Hamas maintains that Israel does not allow trucks with essential goods to enter northern Gaza. Their position is that this is a violation of the contract. Qatar and Egypt continue to try to resolve the issue.
At the same time, more trucks with essential supplies arrived in Gaza from Egypt via the Rafah border in observance of the ceasefire. The Red Cross also informed that more essential medicines have been delivered to the hospitals.
Hamas released 24 hostages in Gaza on Friday, including 13 Israelis, as part of a ceasefire agreement. 39 prisoners and Israel were released. Hamas is expected to release at least 50 people over the course of four days.
At the same time, Qatar started trying to extend the ceasefire by more days. The Qatari delegation came to Tel Aviv to discuss this. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar said that they are trying to extend the break for another five days.
