CDC Advisory Committee recommends use of Pfizer Booster Shots for 12-15 year olds

[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Wonjin Choi = The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory committee recommended the use of a booster shot (boost shot) for the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 years.

According to CNBC on the 5th (local time), the CDC’s Immunization Advisory Committee (ACIP) voted on the agenda and recommended the booster shot vaccination with a vote of 13 in favor and 1 against.

Vaccination is expected to begin after final approval from CDC Director Rochelle Wallensky.

The recommendation for booster shot vaccination for 12-15 year olds came after the spread of Omicron mutation in the United States and more than 1 million new confirmed cases per day.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the average number of hospitalized children per day for seven days is about 3,800. Although the number of hospitalized patients aged 12 to 15 years old is not increasing, the CDC is in the position that the latest statistics are until the 10th of last month, before the cases of omicron mutations come out in earnest, so we have to wait for further statistics.

Dr. Sarah Oliver of the CDC said there was little known about the efficacy of booster shots in 12 to 15 year olds, but said it would enhance immune protection.

A recent study by the UK Health and Safety Agency found that Pfizer Vaccine BoosterShot was able to prevent symptomatic infections by 75%. On the other hand, the prevention rate of symptomatic infection in those who have passed 20 weeks (about 5 months) after completing the first and second vaccinations has dropped to 10%.
