According to CNBC on the 5th (local time), the CDC’s Immunization Advisory Committee (ACIP) voted on the agenda and recommended the booster shot vaccination with a vote of 13 in favor and 1 once morest.
Vaccination is expected to begin following final approval from CDC Director Rochelle Wallensky.
The recommendation for booster shot vaccination for 12-15 year olds came following the spread of Omicron mutation in the United States and more than 1 million new confirmed cases per day.
According to data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the average number of hospitalized children per day for seven days is regarding 3,800. Although the number of hospitalized patients aged 12 to 15 years old is not increasing, the CDC is in the position that the latest statistics are until the 10th of last month, before the cases of omicron mutations come out in earnest, so we have to wait for further statistics.
Dr. Sarah Oliver of the CDC said there was little known regarding the efficacy of booster shots in 12 to 15 year olds, but said it would enhance immune protection.
A recent study by the UK Health and Safety Agency found that Pfizer Vaccine BoosterShot was able to prevent symptomatic infections by 75%. On the other hand, the prevention rate of symptomatic infection in those who have passed 20 weeks (regarding 5 months) following completing the first and second vaccinations has dropped to 10%.
