MP Andy Kerbrat (La France insoumise, Loire-Atlantique) admitted, Tuesday October 22, to having been caught in the act of purchasing drugs. He announced that he was starting a “care protocol”.

The elected official says on X that he was checked on October 17 “in possession of narcotics”. According to information from Current values, who revealed the affair, he was in possession of 1.35 grams of 3-MMC, a synthetic drug whose consumption is widespread in France.

Andy Kerbrat was not taken into custody but interviewed the next day at the police station in open hearing. He claims to put “at the disposal of justice”, who will summon him “in the context of a criminal order”used in low-serious cases.

The deputy for Loire-Atlantique specifies having consumed synthetic drugs to make “faced with personal problems and psychological fragilities”, adding that he “will fight against his addiction” and goes “follow a care protocol” in order to be able to resume his parliamentary activity.

The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, called on the deputy to “draw the consequences of one’s actions”. “A deputy has a duty to set an example”added the minister, judging that he “It is not tolerable to see a deputy of the Republic buying synthetic drugs from a street dealer”.

“Addictions affect all of society”

Several left-wing personalities gave their support to the 34-year-old MP, like his fellow environmentalist Sandrine Rousseau : “You admitted, you are in a treatment process, come back to us in good shape. » The member for Paris recalls that “drug consumption and addiction are an issue of care, mental health and support”.

Environmentalist senator Mélanie Vogel wish “good luck on the healing journey” borrowed by Andy Kerbrat, and regrets that French politics is “focused on repression rather than on the essential: care”. For his part, the doctor and socialist senator from Paris Bernard Jomier recalls that “addictions affect all of society, parliamentarians and ministers included”.

The municipal councilor of Nantes and local delegate of the Horizons party Guillaume Richard, on the other hand, believes that Andy Kerbrat must resign from his functions. “Presenting yourself as a “victim of your addiction” is an insult to the people of Nantes”who elected the deputy last July, he believes.

As for the deputy of National gathering Laurent Jacobellihe quips, asking why the deputy “did he not get supplies from his colleague Louis Boyard”referring to the fact that the latter had admitted in 2021 to having sold drugs when he was younger to finance his studies.
