The Christian faithful of the Archdiocese of Bobo-Dioulasso celebrated the Assumption (ascent of the Virgin Mary into heaven, body and soul), on Monday August 15, 2022 at the Sacré-Coeur parish in sector 18, under the theme: ” Catholic women, with Mary our mother, let us root ourselves in faith, love and unity for a synodal Church ».
Every year on August 15, the Catholic faithful celebrate the Assumption, which marks the elevation of the Virgin Mary to heaven, body and soul. Like Catholics in Burkina Faso and around the world, the archdiocese of Bobo-Dioulasso celebrated this solemnity on August 15, 2022. Coming from the four corners of the archdiocese, the faithful converged at the Sacré-Coeur parish in sector 18 of the city of Sya. The Metropolitan Archbishop of Bobo-Dioulasso, Mgr Paul Ouédraogo, presided over the Mass of the Assumption around the theme: ” Catholic women, with Mary our mother, let us root ourselves in faith, love and unity for a synodal Church ». During the Mass, Catholics testified to their attachment to the Virgin Mary and implored her intercession for the return of peace and security in Burkina Faso. The prelate in his homily clarified that Mary is not a goddess, nor God. ” It is not a question of worshiping him. We don’t worship it. Catholics revere her, simply exalt her “, he insisted. Mary is a woman of faith and humble, said Bishop Paul Ouédraogo, because he explained, a virgin had never given birth, but she believed in the call of God. This is why he urged women, in the image of Mary, to realize this challenge of faith and to resemble her in devotion, in humility, in charity, in the capacity to accept the other. ” The more we will resemble Mary, the more we will make our families and our country happy. “, he implied. Furthermore, the Metropolitan Archbishop called on women to be artisans of unity, of love within their families and the community.
The president of the Catholic Association of Women of the Diocese of Bobo-Dioulasso, Awa Germaine Sanou, welcomed the mobilization of women. ” I ask God to give them the strength to move forward in their undertakings. Let them know that they are the pillars of their families and that the education of children is their responsibility “, she said. The next celebration of the Assumption will take place on August 15, 2023 at the parish Saint Anthony and Saint Lawrence by Yegueresso.
