Caterpillar Foundation support enables CEAP to prepare Brazilian high school students for careers in emerging technology

2023-04-21 02:16:34

with beginningthis February, high school students at Centro Educacional Assistencial Profissionalizante (CEAP) in Brazil will expand their technology education and gain skills to advance their careers through ISACA’s Certified in Emerging Technology (CET) certification courses, in partnership with Caterpillar Foundation.

Over the course of three years, the CET course will complement CEAP students’ existing curriculum and prepare them for a range of careers in technology. CEAP currently offers technology courses to its students, but will update and enhance them with ISACA certification courses, which include Cloud Fundamentals, Blockchain Fundamentals, Internet of Things (IoT) Fundamentals, and Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from ISACA. This will allow high school students, many of whom are from underserved populations, to master areas such as network computing and programming as well as learn to apply IoT and AI not only to IT functions, but also to professions such as logistics, marketing and human resources.

The initiative is in line with ISACA’s commitment to expand access to education and credentialing in domains connected to digital trust professions, including cybersecurity, privacy, IT risk and auditing, and governance, in order to prepare the workforce of the future. This includes partnerships with universities and academic institutions worldwide, as well as efforts through its One In Tech foundation to provide professional development resources and training to those underserved to expand career opportunities. As part of this CEAP program through the Caterpillar Foundation, ISACA will provide CET course materials in Portuguese and Spanish and will certify locally accredited instructors to deliver the training.

“We are honored to play a role in preparing the next generation of digitally trusted professionals in Brazil through this initiative with CEAP and the Caterpillar Foundation,” said Ajay Barot, ISACA Chief of Staff. “We know that demand for these careers is increasing, and equipping young people with specialized knowledge and skills can open up many avenues into high-skill occupations that have the potential to transform lives.”

“It is an immense joy for us and for our students to have access to high-level information. In recent days, we talked to some friends and partners about the ISACA project, and many were extremely surprised, as this content is rarely taught in schools in Brazil. Many paid and renowned universities here still don’t even address these issues”, said Gustavo Yoshiak, Director of Institutional Development at CEAP. “Providing an experience like this for young people in a slum region is a true educational innovation.”

The goals of this educational program fit with the Caterpillar Foundation’s mission to establish thriving communities by investing in the 21st century workforceespecially in areas of digital qualification and the future of work.

ISACA, an international professional association with 170,000 members in 188 countries, is committed to engaging with academic institutions, non-profit organizations, industries and governments to address technology skills gaps, and prepare diverse and future digital trust professionals to do a significant difference in the international community through education, training and professional development opportunities.
