Latvian singer Līga Avota-Kraukle has released her debut single, “7 Dālderi,” on Valentine’s Day, marking a significant moment in her musical journey. While Avota-Kraukle has been involved in music through various competitions and groups since childhood, this marks her first official studio recording as a solo artist. The release is particularly special as the song breathes new life into a classic composition by Agris Krūms, a previously well-known Latvian musician.
The song, which isn’t a typical pop ballad, has already garnered attention, appearing in the February selection of the popular Latvian music show “Latvijas Sirdsdziesma.” Avota-Kraukle describes the track as a perfect fit for romantic occasions, from first dates to wedding dances. “7 Dālderi” is a love song with a timeless quality, and its release is a testament to the enduring power of Latvian music.
A Song Rooted in Latvian Musical History
“7 Dālderi” was originally composed approximately 20 years ago by Agris Krūms, who is no longer actively involved in the music industry. Avota-Kraukle felt a strong connection to the song from the first time she heard it at a dance in Ērģemes pilsdrupas. She saw an opportunity to introduce this beautiful love ballad to a new generation. “I believe it’s one of the most beautiful love ballads in Latvian pop music,” she stated.
The creation of this new version of “7 Dālderi” was a collaborative effort, involving a number of talented Latvian musicians. Jurijs Skrajāns, guitarist for “Bumerangs” and “Big Al &The Jokers,” brought in colleagues Raitis Aukšmuksts and Pēteris Liepiņš to contribute to the recording. Andris Niklavičs handled the arrangement and sound engineering, while Jānis Frīdenfelds provided a trumpet solo. Avota-Kraukle’s husband, Vents Armands Krauklis, served as the producer, and Roberts Johansons directed the music video.
Collaboration and Support from Husband and Fellow Musicians
Avota-Kraukle credits her husband, Vents Armands Krauklis, with significant encouragement and support. The couple has been performing together successfully for the past two years at various venues across Latvia, and audience requests for more solo performances from Līga ultimately led to the creation of this single. “Their and Venta’s encouragement has materialized in a solo song,” she explained.
The singer expressed her gratitude to all involved in the project, emphasizing the passion and dedication each musician brought to the recording. She is optimistic about the song’s reception and hopes it will resonate with a wide audience. “We all position a piece of our soul into this song, so I am confident that the recording will have many listeners and a long life!”
