Catastrophic Conditions for Dogs Spark Intervention – Learn More!

Several associations, including “Le Rêve d’Aby” (Gembloux) and “Sans Collier” (Perwez), as well as the SRPA of Liège and the SPA of Mouscron, had to intervene this Monday in Malonne (Namur), at the request of the Animal Welfare Unit (UBEA) of the Walloon Region. The seizure of several dogs in particular was ordered following an inspection which revealed catastrophic detention conditions for the animals.

“The animals were kept in execrable conditions and the dogs were fed with rabbits,” we regret at Without Necklacewhere we had lived an “unprecedented” situation this summer.

”At the end of the week, the UBEA was alerted to the existence of the facts by a delivery man who was able to observe the distress of dogs locked in cages outside. Following this testimony and the evidence provided, the mistreatment was obvious,” specifies “Aby’s Dream”, which evokes a shocking situation, before continuing the story of this seizure.

Jagdterriers are kept locked in tiny cages, left outside. We imagine with anguish the daily life of these dogs

”At the scene, the nightmare situation of the dogs hits the shelter teams: jagdterriers are kept locked in tiny cages, left outside. We imagine with anguish the daily life of these dogs under the bad weather of recent weeks.”

”Further, the participants enter a makeshift shelter and discover two Malinois and a German shepherd in bad shape. The conditions of detention of the latter are unacceptable,” deplores the Gembloutois association. “The kennel is made from old pallets and the dogs have nothing other than a smooth floor covered in droppings and four walls made of jails and wire mesh.”

Rabbit corpses

As if that wasn’t enough… “in the darkness, the keepers can see corpses of rabbits in the dogs’ cages. These whole rabbits appear to be the only meal they have and are raised by the owner for this purpose.

“All the animals (editor’s note: chickens were also seized in deplorable conditions) belong to a man who sells some of the animals he breeds, including dogs. The individual holds in particular an ‘occasional breeder’ approval, which, the associations hope, will quickly be withdrawn from him,” further specifies. Aby’s Dream.

The next day, the associations at least received confirmation that the man had abandoned all the animals. “This is good news for the shelters who thus become full owners of the 10 dogs and 7 chickens seized the day before.”

Without Necklacewhich took care of three dogs and two cats seized in Malonne on Monday, said it now houses and cares for nearly 300 cats and dogs in its shelters.
