The castle in Porrentruy has been welcoming campers for three years. Since the resurgence of interest in the campsite during the Covid period and the disappearance of that towards the ice rink, a temporary reception area has been set up behind the Refous tower. It can contain regarding fifteen motorhomes. But the facilities are rather basic: no water, no toilets, impossible to drain your caravan. Only electricity was installed from the second season. A certain simplicity that does not bother the campers met on site. Urs specifies that “in our van, we have everything we need: a shower, cooking facilities and it’s not a problem for me to live a week without water”. As for Marianne, she finds the place “wonderful because the city center is not far away”. The farmer from the castle farm, who also manages the site, received the same opinions. Claude Gerber recalls that “this location has been temporary for a few years now”. This parking space is quite popular. Last year, 137 motorhomes spent the night near the castle, i.e. 270 nights, which are charged 10 francs per vehicle and 2 francs per person.
Tourist advantages
Guillaume Lachat, director of Jura Tourisme, lists several advantages for this temporary site, which might become permanent. With the other partners, the municipal authorities and the farmer Claude Gerber, discussions are underway to find another place that has just as many strengths. Guillaume Lachat indicates that he is looking for a plot close to the shops to encourage tourists to consume in Porrentruy. The surroundings of the castle are also friendly for motorhomes who do not need a certain comfort. Their van already offers them many conveniences.
Annoying neighbors?
As for the users of the castle, the person in charge of the prisons specifies that this parking space does not pose any problems. No difficulty has been reported for the moment, according to Romain Marchand, head of the legal department. And justice? the President of the Cantonal Court, Pascal Chappuis, indicates that no one was consulted on this question. /ncp
