the essentials The Recyclotopia association is booming and has more and more followers. The starting point for a circular economy and waste reduction, recycling continues to appeal.
Part of a brilliant idea from a group of friends to create a recycling center, the association was born in 2017 with the sole means of motivating those who imagined it. “We had an idea to make it a hybrid place between recycling and a third place where we could recycle objects, give them a second life and share a common passion around ecology and extending the life of objects,” testifies Séverine Plagnes, co-president of the association.
The idea and the desire were there, they then embarked on the adventure of creating an association, starting first by imagining an action plan and bringing together volunteers interested in the project. . Very quickly, they were able to build a real network, rely on resource people in order to start launching their activity. “At the beginning we had nothing, apart from our D system and our motivation. Thanks to the municipality of the town of Castelnaudary we were able to meet other association leaders such as the Confederation Syndicale des Familles with whom we joined forces to carry out our first coffee repair workshops”, explains Séverine.
Little by little, the bird made its nest and through actions and “doing”, the association was able to carve out a place for itself in the Chaurian associative fabric and gained visibility. At the beginning, 80 members had already discovered the association and showed solidarity for its development. They owe their exponential growth to their self-sacrifice and to an event that left its mark. “In 2019, we organized a giant coffee repair where we brought together all the partners linked to our association, including professionals. We experienced success beyond our expectations and this allowed us to meet at this event. more than 300 visitors”, explains Séverine.
A real trigger for the Recyclotopia which marked the start of a great ascent. Thanks to a core group of volunteers and the support of local elected officials, they were able to move into the premises of the former Andréossy high school. Recycling, making recycled objects, running workshops and raising awareness about reducing everyday waste form the association’s trademark.
Today the association’s premises are divided into several spaces, from the shop to the workshop for repairing and refinishing objects, including the sewing area; it is a veritable hive that volunteers build and run every day. days.
A few years after having imagined and shaped the Recyclotopia with their hands, the volunteers do not stop there and already have their eyes turned towards the next step which is to create a real recycling center.
