Cash App users could receive up to $2,500 after class action lawsuit

If you used Cash App at any time in 2018, you may be eligible to receive part of a $15 million class action settlement.

Block Inc., the owner of Cash App, agreed to such a large payment after being accused of negligence following two major data breaches. According to the class action lawsuit itself, Block Inc. and Cash App Investing were “negligent and breached other obligations to users” in 2022. It turns out that a former employee accessed account data without the required authorization.

In both cases, they denied any responsibility or involvement in the events. However, they did accept the $15 million settlement. So you yourself could be one of the lucky ones with a direct payment of up to $2,500 USD.

Users eligible for direct payment

Cash App users who can file a claim must have had an account between August 23, 2018, and before August 20, 2024. Another key aspect is that those who are claiming have already received a refund from Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or a third party. Here are the types of claims you can file.

-Out-of-Pocket Losses: A claim showing that the user’s Cash App account was involved in the data breach. Those eligible for this category will receive a refund of up to $2,500 USD.

-Lost Time: Claim showing lost time for up to three hours at a rate of $25.00 USD per hour.

-Transaction losses: a claim showing that the user suffered a monetary loss and has not received a refund.

Claim forms can be completed online and must be submitted by November 18, 2024. You may also print a claim form and mail it in.

There is still no set date for the distribution of payments. What is official is that the final approval hearing is scheduled for December 16 of this year.
