The Ducati factory team recruited Marquez for MotoGP 2025. The Baby Alien will be partnered with Francesco Bagnaia.
This decision also closed the door for Jorge Martin’s promotion to the factory team. In fact, the Spanish rider has performed well with the Pramac Ducati satellite team for three years.
This season, Martin is even one step closer to becoming the 2024 MotoGP world champion. He is at the top of the standings ahead of the final race in Barcelona, 24 points ahead of Bagnaia.
Martin ultimately chose to move to a rival manufacturer, Aprilia, to replace Aleix Espargaro who retired. Ducati’s decision not to promote the Martinator was criticized by former racer and former world champion, Casey Stoner.
“It would be a bad thing, but it would be even worse for Martin. He has spent many years loyal to Ducati, has made an incredible effort to be the only one competing with Pecco to win races and the World Championship, but then lost the opportunity to be promoted to the official team,” said Stoner, quoted by Marca.
“I don’t think it’s fair, but unfortunately that’s how Ducati works. That’s why they lose so many riders. Some wonder why you have to leave the best bike, but you don’t just ride for business, you race for passion and for fun. “
“When someone leaves you so quickly, you find the motivation to go elsewhere. They have lost a great driver and team, we’ll see what happens,” Stoner said.
