Five days ago, a somewhat special message was published on the Instagram account of Casey McIntyre, a 38-year-old American woman. “A word to my friends: if you are reading this, it is because I am dead. I’m sorry,” we read in the caption of a series of photos in which Casey appears surrounded by her loved ones.
For years, Casey had been battling ovarian cancer. A cancer that had made her life a battle, which she led with courage. But recently, she had understood that the illness would prevail.

“I loved you all with all my heart and I promise you that I know how much I was loved,” adds the one who leaves behind a 1.5 year old daughter.
Andrew, Casey’s partner, then added a little note to explain that Casey had aimed to add to the list of things that made her happy in her life: “But I’m broken at the thought of not never see this list, because she never managed to finish this message because she was so sick,” he explains, before listing some of the passions and good times experienced by his lover.

Before leaving, Casey appealed for donations. Her initial goal was to raise $20,000 to erase the medical debts of other patients who, like her, are battling cancer. Hundreds of thousands of euros have since been raised.
