Casey DeSmith’s Future with the Montreal Canadiens: Trade Options and Goalie Market Update

Acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the transaction from Jeff Petry on August 6, we still don’t know what will happen to goaltender Casey DeSmith.

General manager Kent Hughes was willing to discuss the situation of his goalkeepers on Tuesday during a press briefing, but he himself is in the dark at the moment.

“I told Casey to be patient and that we had no intention of sending him to the American League. We will continue to see if we can trade him or do something else, ”said the DG, thus leaving room for a possible transaction involving another of his guardians.

“We have to be patient with the goalkeeper market, because it’s not moving that fast.”

The Habs find themselves with four masked men who want to play in the National League, namely DeSmith, Samuel Montembeault, Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau.

Montembeault, however, should not be compromised, as he himself said last week.

“Kent was super correct. Almost as soon as the trade was over, he spoke with my agent to tell him not to worry. It’s the fun that he took the time to do that,” he said during a press briefing as part of the Gagné-Bergeron Pro-Am at the Videotron Center.
