Cases of naturalization with a foreign nationality while not retaining the Egyptian nationality.. Get to know it

Many questions circulated daily regarding naturalization, whether only Egyptian nationality or obtaining another, and in the following report, “The Seventh Day” sheds light on the problem of naturalization with a foreign nationality while not retaining the Egyptian nationality, at a time when Egyptian law allows Egyptian citizens to naturalize a nationality. A foreigner with or without retaining the Egyptian nationality following obtaining permission to do so issued by a decision of the Minister of Interior.

In the event that a citizen requests not to retain the Egyptian nationality, he shall be deemed to have lost it as of the date of the ministerial decision or the date of acquiring the foreign nationality, whichever is later, while noting the following:

1- A citizen may, within one year from the date of losing his Egyptian nationality, submit an application to retain this nationality, and in this case he shall be treated as a dual national.

2 The demise of the Egyptian nationality does not entail the Egyptian’s naturalization of a foreign nationality following his permission to take it away from his wife, unless she decides her desire to do so.

3- The nationality of minor children “up to 18 years” shall lose their nationality if, by virtue of changing their father’s nationality, they enter into his new nationality.

4 During the year following reaching the age of majority, children can decide to choose the Egyptian nationality.

5- Acceptance of the request for permission to naturalize a foreign nationality does not mean approval except following receiving the approval of the Ministry of Interior.

How an Egyptian citizen abroad obtains the approval of the Egyptian authorities to obtain permission to naturalize a foreign nationality without retaining the Egyptian nationality:

1- A true copy of the Egyptian birth certificate.

2- A true copy of the Egyptian birth certificate of the father of the concerned person or one of the uncles or aunts “to prove that the grandfather is of Egyptian nationality”.

3- The original Egyptian passport, provided that it is valid.

4- A true copy of the Egyptian identity card.

5- A true copy of the first pages of the foreign passport, “and it must be valid.”

6- A true copy of the naturalization certificate of foreign nationality, “if any”.

7- The husband’s consent to the wife’s naturalization of a foreign nationality “if the request is for the wife.”

8- 4 photographs.
