Cases of mushroom poisoning in the Leningrad region in 2021-2022 – Incidents – Saint Petersburg News

Lost in the forest near St. Petersburg, a student escaped from hunger with mushrooms and poisoned herself with the most poisonous of them. This was reported to Fontanka at the Janelidze Research Institute for Emergency Medicine on August 19.

Alexei Lodyagin, head of the clinical toxicology department of the hospital, spoke regarding fatal mushroom poisoning the day before at a press conference at TASS. This is the first case in two years when a patient’s life might not be saved.

This season, 14 patients with mushroom poisoning were hospitalized at the Janelidze Research Institute, 13 were cured. Over the past year, 37 people were hospitalized, there were no deaths.

As Fontanka was specified in the press service of the hospital, a student who got lost in the forest of the Leningrad Region in the middle of summer died. The girl was picking mushrooms from hunger and ate a pale toadstool. As Aleksey Lodyagin recalled, this is the most dangerous fungus that causes severe liver damage.

Fans of quiet hunting if they feel unwell are asked not to self-medicate and seek medical attention. Poisoning manifests itself as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, some symptoms may be delayed.
