Kuwait City: The Ministry of Health has tightened measures in the wake of increasing reports of food poisoning cases in the country. The inspection will be strengthened in collaboration with the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition.
Although no major food poisoning cases or deaths have been reported in recent months, authorities are taking note of even minor incidents reported in hospitals. Medical staff at health centers have been instructed to notify the Food and Nutrition Authority coordinator in each health sector when food poisoning is reported.
This will allow them to quickly report suspected cases of food poisoning and to investigate suspicious food preparation areas. Members of Parliament have complained that food products entering the country from abroad are not subjected to rigorous laboratory tests.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the Kuwait Municipality, the Public Authority for the Environment and the Kuwaiti General Administration for Customs met last month in this regard. Food preparation centers will ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines.
Employees in these areas will be ensured that there are no obvious diseases. Authorities said they would take stern action once morest food companies that hired employees who did not have health cards.
