THE Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched several private offices around Jakarta and South Tangerang, Banten. The searches were related to a money laundering case that ensnared suspects, former Governor of North Maluku (Malut) Abdul Gani Kasuba and former Chairman of the Gerindra DPD Malut Muhaimin Syarif.

“Investigators conducted searches at three private offices located in South Jakarta, North Jakarta and two houses located in South Jakarta and South Tangerang,” said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardika Sugiarto via video statement, Monday, July 29, 2024.

The search was carried out on July 25-26, 2024. Investigators secured a number of pieces of evidence suspected of being related to the application for a mining business permit area (WIUP) in North Maluku.

“Investigators obtained several documents, letters and notes, as well as electronic evidence and printouts. The electronic evidence, according to investigators, is related to the alleged management of the WIUP in North Maluku which was allegedly carried out by the suspect,” explained Tessa.

The KPK will investigate the findings. Then, clarify to the relevant parties.

“The results of the search will be clarified with the relevant parties,” he explained.

Abdul Gani is a suspect on suspicion of money laundering. The value of the crime in his new case is estimated to reach Rp100 billion.

“The initial evidence of the alleged TPPU (money laundering crime) is the purchase and disguising the origin of ownership of assets of economic value in the name of another person with an initial value estimated to be around more than IDR 100 billion,” said KPK spokesperson for prosecution Ali Fikri at the KPK’s Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
