O california institute of technology (California Institute of Technologyor Caltech) has reached a possible settlement regarding its dispute once morest Apple it’s at Broadcom on alleged patent infringements.
According to a new report from Archyde.comwas filed a document [PDF] in the Los Angeles District Court, which cites a possible agreement between the companies on the eve of a trial that might take place by the end of next September. The details of such an agreement, however, have not (yet?) been disclosed.
A possible deal has been reached. For reasons stated on record, the status conference continues until August 24, 2023 at 8:30 am.
Also according to the article, all three companies must submit a new joint status report by next Friday, August 18th. Therefore, it is possible that more information regarding the unfolding of the case will be released in the coming weeks.
It is worth remembering that the legal battle began in 2016, when Caltech accused Broadcom and Apple of violating four patents related to the technology. Wi-Fi. Four years later, Caltech won the case and Apple was ordered to pay $838 million in damages, while Broadcom was ordered to pay $270 million.
Naturally, both appealed the decision, reversing the payment of the billionaire fine. More recently, however, the case has taken a negative turn for Apple and Broadcom following the Supreme Court of the United States denying the companies’ appeal to invalidate Caltech’s patents, confirming the Institute’s patent rights.
This week, Caltech reached an agreement with Samsung in a similar patent infringement proceeding, also according to information from Archyde.com. Caltech also sued other giants like Microsoft, Dell e HP because of its Wi-Fi patents — cases that remain pending.
