The lack of inclusion (educational, social and labor) of People with disabilities y the environmental crisis that we live are two of the great problems of these times. And they are, precisely, two problems to which the Environmental Education Program (PEA) of the organization Green Helmets seeks to provide a solution. This is an initiative that since 2007 has trained students with intellectual disabilities in environmental issues, while promoting the development of their social skills.
Currently, Cascos Verdes carries out an annual fundraising campaign, called Breaking down barrierswith which it aims to obtain 4 million pesos that will allow 15 new students with disabilities to receive scholarships by 2023. Until now, they have already gone through the program more than 560 people with disabilities.
The PEA has face-to-face and virtual course modalities, and lasts 4 years. Classes are complemented by educational visits and workshops, as well as internships in public and private institutions. At the end, They receive an honorary title of Green Helmet, which makes them environmental educators.
To make a contribution, you can enter the Cascos Verdes website and choose the amount, with several payment options available.
During its 16 years of experience, Cascos Verdes has worked in alliance with different universities, which provide facilities and support the initiative. The first was the Argentine Catholic University; Later, the Universidad San Andrés, the Austral, the Torcuato Di Tella, the Católica de Salta, Del Salvador and the UADE joined.
As we said in a previous note regarding Green Helmets, the program does not guarantee a job opportunity, but paves the way to your first job. An example of this is the case of Azul Ketelhohn, who obtained an administrative job in a company in which the NGO provided support for her insertion into the world of work.
“We believe in the transformative power of education and that is why we seek to have more and more environmental educators. We know that the real inclusion of people with disabilities is possible because we see it every day in the experiences of students, teachers, families, organizations and people who join”says Marcos Lanusse, executive director of Cascos Verdes.
