Casablanca Stock Exchange. Quarterly performance declines in the 4th quarter

The Casablanca Stock Exchange closed the 4th quarter of 2022 (Q4-2022) down, its main index, the Masi, dropping 7.69% to 10,720.25 points.

The Morocco Stock Index 20 (MSI20), which reflects the price performance of the 20 most liquid companies, lost 8.53% to 857.43 points, and the Casablanca ESG 10, the benchmark Environment, Social and Governance (ESG ), fell 7.01% to 805.04.

Since the beginning of the year, the Masi, the MSI20 and the Casablanca ESG have posted underperformances of -19.75%, -21.03% and -19.34% respectively.

At the end of this quarter, only 4 sectors ended up, while 19 ended down.

The beverages sector achieved the best performance (+8.46%), followed by “Mining” (+2.49%) and “Transport” (2.33%),

On the other hand, the “Engineering and Industrial Equipment Goods” sector (-21.67%) showed the strongest decline, followed by that of chemicals (-19.24%) and that of Forestry & Paper ( -18.63%).

The overall volume of trade in Q4 amounted to more than 28.48 billion dirhams, including 9.16 billion dirhams on the central equity market and 16.84 billion dirhams on the block market (equities).

On the podium of securities transactions, Managem was the most active instrument, capturing 29.41% of transactions, or 2.69 billion dirhams, followed by Attijariwafa Bank with 1.14 billion dirhams (12.5%). and Itissalat Al-Maghrib with 825.43 million dirhams (MDH (9%).

Market capitalization amounted to nearly 561.1 billion dirhams (MMDH).

On the securities front, the biggest drops were recorded by Delattre Levivier Maroc (-32.02% to 42.9 DH), Maghreb Oxygène (-29.74% to 244.75 DH), BMCI (-21, 24% to 354.4 DH), Sonasid (-20% to 520 DH) and Alliances (-18.74% to 52 DH). The biggest increases of the week were the work of Stokvis Nord Afrique (+30.37% to 15.71 DH), Oulmes (+24.32% to 1,554 DH), Balima (17.02% to 165 DH ), SMI (12.59% to 1520 DH) and IB MAROC.COM (+8.29% to 30.97 DH).
