A Beacon of Hope: Local Organization Celebrates Breast Cancer Survivors, Emphasizes Early Detection

This year has brought joyous news for at least four women who rang the victory bell, signifying their triumph over breast cancer. This milestone is a testament to the efforts of organizations committed to prevention and early detection, efforts that have contributed to breast cancer no longer being a leading cause of death.

A Shift in the Landscape: Breast Cancer Detection and Prevention Making Strides

“We are incredibly happy to see breast cancer drop significantly this year. It appears that the emphasis on prevention and timely detection is yielding positive results,” said Roxana Guízar Rodríguez, founder of the Women Supporting Women association, also known as MAM’s house.

Raising Awareness, Offering Support

Throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, MAM’s house made a significant impact by providing 200 free mammograms. Only two of these screenings required biopsies, and just one case was positive.

“We’ve been working tirelessly throughout October, and this is actually our last event for the month. We strive to reach everyone in schools, companies, and communities, promoting education and awareness about prevention and the importance of early detection because cancer is curable when addressed in time,” Guízar Rodríguez explained.

The Fight Continues: Remembering Those Lost, Supporting Those in Need

Despite promising progress, Guízar Rodríguez acknowledged that the fight against breast cancer is far from over. In recent weeks, the association faced the loss of one of its members to the disease, underscoring the urgency of their mission.

Currently, MAM’s house supports 78 women, with new beneficiaries joining regularly. “We have a very high turnover. Many women come to us for the first time with various diagnoses, seeking mammograms, ultrasounds, or wigs,” Guízar Rodríguez shared.

Continuous Care: A Lifelong Approach to Cancer Survival

The founder emphasized the ongoing need for surveillance even after beating cancer. “Women who overcome this disease require constant monitoring for five to ten years to prevent relapses,” she stated.

Through their unwavering commitment, MAM’s house reinforces its dedication to providing comprehensive support and advocating for timely detection. The organization firmly believes that prevention remains the most powerful weapon in the fight against breast cancer, ultimately saving lives.
