This restaurant opened its doors in 2020 by the Sevillian chef Rafa Zafra – who is also the owner of the Estimar restaurants in Barcelona and Madrid. The chef had a dream: to recover the true essence of a chiringuito, with homemade food and good work, but adding an extra point of quality, sophistication and creativity. “There were many chiringuitos on the island, but the way we have done it, not so many. We gave it warmth, we professionalized it, we pampered it,” Zafra said in an interview on Seven Cannibals.
© rafazafra_The atmosphere couldn’t be more relaxing, as Casa Jondal, in San José, southwest of Ibiza, overlooks a pebble beach with crystal-clear waters, which can be reached by a country road between pine trees and junipers. In this old Ibizan house there is no music, just the sound of the waves (the tables are on the sand) and good conversation between diners. The menu features dishes such as mussels in a spicy seafood sauce, lobster rice soup, garlic prawns with fried eggs and potatoes, grilled mussels, lemon-flavored tuna belly, sea bass in salt and natural red prawn carpaccio. All prepared using fresh, local, top-quality seasonal produce (you can even see the seafood and fish from the market displayed on the counter at the entrance).
© rafazafra_They also have a separate lounger area with a more informal snack menu such as patatas bravas, Spanish omelette, Iberian ham, croquettes, sandwiches, fried calamari and all kinds of cocktails. Anyone interested in going to Casa Jondal should keep in mind that the table reservation for the menu is separate from the loungers. Casa Jondal has a capacity for 350 customers and is open from Monday to Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
