Carson Briere, the son of Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere, was granted 15 months’ probation by an Erie County judge in connection with the incident in which he pushed a wheelchair into a staircase, in March.
The video of the gesture caused a lot of discussion on social networks, with many highlighting the lack of consideration of the young man, now 24 years old. On March 11, during an outing to a bar in Pennsylvania, Brière and his friend Patrick Carrozzi rolled down a staircase belonging to a disabled woman who had left to go to the bathroom. A police investigation followed and the two Mercyhurst University students were criminally charged.

They appeared Tuesday, according to the Erie Times-News. Their applications for the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, offered to people who have committed a first non-violent offense, were accepted.
At the end of his 15-month probation for a second-degree felony count, Brière will see the charges once morest him dropped and his record expunged.
In court, the man who was kicked from his university’s hockey team apologized to Sydney Benes, who lost his legs in a car accident in 2021. His wheelchair was damaged when he fell into the stairs, a situation she called “humiliating.”
Before her and the judge, Brière’s lawyer explained that his client had volunteered for a hockey club for disabled veterans since the incident and had offered to pay for the damage caused to the wheelchair.
Brière is expected to begin his professional hockey career in Slovakia, with HC 19 Humenne. He has not played since March 4, around ten days before the video of the incident was published on X (formerly Twitter).
