A news from AAA Data has just revealed that electric city cars are more and more popular with the French.

The electric cars continue to attract drivers. On the French market, the vehicles that most appeal to citizens are city cars. A new report from AAA Data has just shown that the Fiat 500, the Peugeot e-208 and the Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric are the most popular. For their part, sales of thermal cars are less and less important.

Thanks to government aid, but also the development of charging stations, new models and rising prices at the pump, electric cars are increasingly favored for purchase by French drivers.

The latest figures from AAA Data have just provided an update on sales for the month of May 2022. In first place for electric cars, we find the Fiat 500 with 2,129 registrations. Just behind, the Peugeot e-208 and Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric with respectively 1,668 and 1,500 registrations.

note, the ranking has changed a lot since the start of 2022. Previously, it was the Dacia Spring which led the way in electric car sales in France. She had been at the top of the podium for several months. The latter was closely followed by several models, including the Peugeot 208, the Tesla Model 3, the Renault Zoé, the Renault Twingo, the Peugeot e-2008, the Hyundai Kona, the Mini Cooper SE and finally the Kia e-Niro.

At the level of the thermal car market, the latter knows a drop in sales of 10.09% compared to last year, compared to -35% compared to 2019. In May 2022, only 126,810 petrol or diesel vehicles were registered. AAA Data explains this drop in sales by the shortage of semiconductors. The electric car market is benefiting from a 31.84% increase in sales compared to May 2021, with 15,246 registrations in May 2022. This represents a market share of 12%, once morest 7.1% l ‘last year.
