Yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad landed in Algeria, at the start of an Arab tour that will lead him to Tunisia and later to Iraq, amid continuing Arab diplomatic contacts and moves aimed at restoring warm relations with Syria and its return to the League of Arab States.

Minister Mekdad, who received an exceptional warm welcome, was at the head of his reception at Houari Boumediene International Airport, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Communities Abroad Ahmed Ataf, in exception to the Algerian protocol for receiving ministers, reflecting the importance of the visit and the depth of relations between the two countries.

In his statements following his arrival in the Algerian capital, Al-Miqdad said: “The relations were, are, and will continue between our two brotherly countries,” explaining that the visit aims to express the sincere feelings of the leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic, led by President Bashar al-Assad, to the Algerian leadership, and Syria’s gratitude for Algeria’s standing as it is. According to sources for Al-Watan, Al-Miqdad will meet today with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, where he will convey to him a verbal message from President Bashar Al-Assad regarding the latest political developments in the Arab arena, the recent meetings and the files raised in all these meetings, and their impact on Arab bilateral relations. – Arab countries, especially since Algeria, which chairs the Arab summit, has made great efforts in terms of returning Syria to its Arab surroundings.

Al-Miqdad will also discuss strengthening the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways of developing them, and coordinating positions between the two countries.

The sources pointed out that Al-Miqdad will hold official talks tomorrow with his Algerian counterpart, before leaving Algeria at noon on Monday, where he will head to Tunisia.

Al-Miqdad, who was receiving him in addition to Minister Ataf, was accompanied by the Syrian ambassador to Algeria, Namir Al-Ghanim, director of the Arab Affairs Department, Riyad Abbas, director of the minister’s office, Jamal Najib, and Ihsan al-Rumman from the minister’s office.

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to Algeria comes one day following the meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the presence of Iraq, Egypt and Jordan, which discussed the possibility of Syria returning to the League of Arab States, and was preceded by a working visit by Al-Miqdad to Saudi Arabia, which is the first for the Minister of Foreign Affairs in nearly 12 years old.

The talks dealt with efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves Syria’s unity, security and stability, facilitating the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, and securing humanitarian aid to the affected areas in Syria.
