Indonesian men’s singles badminton player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo had to stop in the last 16 of the 2024 Japan Open tournament, Thursday (22/8).
Chico lost to French representative Alex Lanier in two straight games 14-21 and 13-21 in the second round match held in Yokohama, Japan.
Chico admitted that Lanier played better than him. Meanwhile, he himself was carried away by the opponent’s playing pattern and could not control it.
“In the match earlier, Alex played better. I was carried away by the opponent’s slow tempo. He was also able to control my game. So throughout the match I continued to follow his playing pattern,” said Chico, quoted from a brief statement from PP PBSI.
Furthermore, Chico admitted that he had been behind since the beginning of the first game and could not seize the momentum to restore the score.
“From the beginning of the first game, I was indeed behind. When there was momentum to catch up, I failed. The good opportunity passed me by,” said Chico.
“In the second game, I was ahead at the beginning. But my opponent was able to change the game pattern like in the first game. Meanwhile, I came back
follow the opponent’s pattern. I tried to change it earlier, but the opponent appeared more confident with his pattern,” he added.
He continued, “In terms of preparation, it’s actually okay and there are no problems. It’s just that how to play in the middle of the field is not as expected.
