[PSHK report]This morning (9th), the incoming chief executive, Li Jiachao, went to the chief executive’s office to meet with the current chief executive, Carrie Lam. After the two met, they met with reporters at the government headquarters.

Carrie Lam said at the beginning that yesterday Hong Kong held the 6th Chief Executive election “successfully and smoothly”, and congratulated Li Jiachao on being elected as the next Chief Executive.

She described today as a very important day. This election is the last of the first three elections following the “improvement of the electoral system”. It symbolizes that the system of patriots ruling Hong Kong has been completely established and is of great importance to the future development of Hong Kong.

She thanked the Chinese government for taking decisive measures in the face of unprecedented difficulties in Hong Kong, including the National Security Law and “improving the electoral system”, so that Hong Kong’s peace and stability will last for a long time. Carrie Lam said that she still has a lot of work to do in the rest of her term. It will provide all the assistance Li Jiachao needs to start the formation of a new government.

In the end, she said that she would continue to control the epidemic in Hong Kong and meet the necessary conditions for customs clearance with Shenzhen, China; she would also prepare for the society to return to normal, so that citizens might happily participate in the 25th anniversary of the return of the motherland.
