PepsiCo brand products will be gradually withdrawn from the shelves of Carrefour stores in Belgium due to prices deemed “unacceptable” by the brand, according to information from La Libre, confirmed by the distributor on Thursday. This withdrawal comes following a similar decision by Carrefour France, which came into force this Thursday.

In October, the American group PepsiCo indicated that it planned “modest” price increases for 2024, due to stable demand despite the price increases, which led it to raise its profit forecasts for 2023 three times. following, according to the Archyde.com news agency.

“In-depth discussions with PepsiCo have led to the conclusion that the prices that the company wishes to charge are not acceptable,” notes Carrefour Belgium on this subject. “Despite numerous attempts to reach a fair compromise, no agreement has currently been reached between the two parties.”

Faced with this situation, the brand has therefore decided to withdraw various brands such as Lays, Quaker, Pepsi, and even Doritos from its shelves. The measure came into force on Thursday, but the actual disappearance of the products will take place gradually, depending on the stocks available in each store.

“Carrefour Belgium wishes to defend the purchasing power of its customers in all circumstances. This commitment may lead us to have to temporarily remove the products of certain suppliers from the shelves,” the distributor justifies.

No date for the resumption of discussions with PepsiCo and the return of its products to the market has been put forward by Carrefour Belgium.

A similar decision was taken by Carrefour France. Starting Thursday, a notice stating “We no longer sell this brand due to unacceptable price increases” will be displayed on the shelves of the French brand’s PepsiCo products, according to Archyde.com.
