An (almost) twin of the iPhone 12
You don’t change a winning formula: this is what Apple’s motto may have been when it designed its iPhone 13, launched two years ago. The brand has thus taken up the same rectangular format as the iPhone 12 with its rounded edges, brushed aluminum and solid glass back which happily exudes quality. The smartphone is also IP68 certified, which makes it resistant to dust and immersion up to 6 m under water for 30 minutes, just like the iPhone 12. A few small changes have nevertheless been made: l iPhone 13 is thus thicker and slightly heavier than its predecessor (174 g against 164 g).
Regarding the screen of the iPhone 13, the 6.1-inch panel offers the infinite contrasts and deep blacks of OLED. We still regret the absence of the 120 Hz refresh rate, which most premium smartphones offer in this price range. Here, we are satisfied with a screen refreshed at 60 Hz, which fortunately promises sufficiently fluid navigation. The Cupertino company has also reduced the size of the notch by 20%, which frees up space on the top of the screen, even if it does not allow more information to be displayed.
A monster of power
Apple strives every year to deliver the ultimate in performance for these iPhones. The iPhone 13 is therefore equipped with an A15 Bionic chip, much more powerful than the previous one. It is thus able to handle even more demanding tasks. Gourmet mobile games, watching videos, editing 4K videos on iMovie… The iPhone 13 never flinched during our test. On the autonomy side, Apple has made great progress. The iPhone 13 is therefore able to last a full day on a charge, even with rather intense use.
Finally, in terms of its photo part, the iPhone 13 integrates the two sensors of the iPhone 12 Pro Max: a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle one. An AI is also on hand to fine-tune the details of the shots captured. It is also very noticeable in photos of people in motion, which will be perfectly captured on the spot. Overall, the photos captured with this photo module will benefit from a good level of detail and brightness, including in the early evening when the sun is setting.
