“Carmelo Anthony Reveals JR Smith as Favorite Career Teammate in Sports Illustrated Interview”

In a recent interview for Sports Illustrated, Carmelo Anthony says his favorite career teammate is none other than JR Smith! Something to ignite a little more on the rear double NBA champion, one of our favorites at TrashTalk.

The kind of morning announcement that, coffee in hand, makes you smile. We had already asked ourselves the question in the poufs a few months ago but Melo answered directly for us: JR Smith is the first name that comes out of Carmelo’s mouth when he mentions his favorite teammate, his special partner!

“I had a lot of teammates; but my favorite is JR”

It must be said that Gérard held Melo’s leg well too. During the 2010-2011 season, the Denver winger had publicly shown his desire to join the Knicks to play in his hometown, alongside Amar’e Stoudemire in particular. The mess of “Melodrama” had caused a trade involving 13 players… But at the end of the 2011 season, good old Gérard free agent – Melo’s former teammate in Denver – had also decided to join his pal in the Big Apple. Not even separated 30 games that the two friends found themselves once more in the same locker room. If we compile the years, they will have played almost 9 years together under the same jersey in the Great League. Something to bring back some good memories…

But if Melo is so attached to JR, it’s also because the bond between the two players goes far beyond the space of the field. He describes his relationship with Gérard in these terms:

“Seeing him go through what he went through while coming to play… I felt like I was one of two people who might understand him, might identify with him. Me and Allen Iverson at the time. Suddenly, I felt a bit like a big brother for JR “

This link between the players can also be explained by a difficult youth which has necessarily brought them closer over the years. In addition to being orphaned by his father, Melo grew up in the red-light districts of Baltimore, where Smith comes from a large family whose father worked tirelessly in construction to feed his children. The parallel between the teammates suggests that their origins have a lot to do with their relationship. And when we question Gérard on the subject, we realize that the special bond is reciprocal:

” Melo is probably the person I appreciate the most in those I have dated, having been at his side for x years. When I was traded from New York to Cleveland, I was honestly angry. […] More than anything, I was upset because I mightn’t play with my best friend anymore.

We are therefore on a bromance without appeal between Carmelo Anthony and the GOAT JR Smith. All the lights are green to make us nostalgic seeing this type of info. Gerard number one, it’s not moving.
